The day, hour by hour

This is a sample day: add, skip or linger over any stop and we will adjust it. From about late October to mid-January the last stop falls at sunset; the rest of the year the sun sets later, so you get the late light, or you can ask us to start later.

Hotel pickup · 09:00 · anywhere in Sapa

Silver Waterfall

09:25 · about 25 minutes · steps, as far as you like

Entry fee included

Silver Waterfall dropping down the rock beside the road near Sapa

A long fall over dark rock beside the road, with an arched footbridge partway up and a staircase you can climb as far as you want. A short stop to start the day, because the better walk comes next.

Love Waterfall

10:05 · about 1 hour 45 in all · stone path through forest, about 30 minutes each way

Entry fee included

Love Waterfall falling into a pool in the forest of Hoang Lien National Park

A small footbridge over the stream on the forest path

4 photos · tap to enlarge

A stone path with steps through bamboo and forest inside Hoang Lien National Park, beside the stream the locals call Golden Stream, with the steepest part in the last 200 m. Your guide knows the stories told about the falls and sets a pace that suits the slowest walker. If the rain has made the stones unsafe, we swap this part for the tea hills.

Lunch on the pass

12:10 · about 1 hour · sit-down

Lunch and one soft drink included

A hotpot of river fish and greens on a restaurant table on the O Quy Ho Pass

1 photo · tap to enlarge

Usually a hotpot of farmed trout or sturgeon, the dish this cold road is known for, with greens and rice. Vegetarian dishes on request, if you tell us when you book.

Over the summit · about 10 minutes · into Lai Chau province

Rong May glass bridge

13:30 · about 2 hours · lift, then a walkway

Bridge and lift ticket included

The glass-floored walkway of the Rong May bridge running out from the cliff
The glass floor of the walkway at Rong May with the valley below
The steel lift tower and covered walkway at Rong May above the valley
The road winding through the valley, seen from the top of the cliff at Rong May

4 photos · tap to enlarge

A private attraction on the Lai Chau side: a tunnel into the rock, a lift in a steel tower up the cliff, then a glass-floored walkway out over the drop, with covers handed out for your shoes. If heights are not for you, your guide will wait with you at the base and we will use the time elsewhere. The swing and zipline up there are paid separately, only if you want them.

The Lonely Tree

15:40 · about 20 minutes · short walk

Viewpoint ticket included

A single small tree at the end of a log walkway above the valley on the O Quy Ho Pass

1 photo · tap to enlarge

A small single tree at the end of a log walkway built out over the slope, with the valley falling away behind it. By this hour the morning slots have gone back to town.

Heaven Gate and the Tram Ton saddle

16:10 · about 75 minutes · paths and some stairs

Main-zone ticket included

Late-afternoon light over the ridges, seen through the split stone gate at Heaven Gate
The split stone gate at Heaven Gate Sapa on the O Quy Ho Pass, with mountains behind
O Quy Ho Pagoda inside the Heaven Gate park
The road crossing the saddle at Tram Ton Pass between forested ridges

4 photos · tap to enlarge

The split stone gate, O Quy Ho Pagoda and the paths at about 2,035 m, then the free roadside saddle where Lao Cai meets Lai Chau. Local reports put the best light here at about 16:30 to 17:30, when the sun is low. A clear sunset is never promised: cloud can close in within minutes, and we do not refund for it. Because the car is yours, we can stay on at the roadside if the sky is about to break.

Is this the right tour for you?

A good fit if

You have a full day in Sapa and want to see the pass properly rather than in a four-hour slot.

You would like to be at the top in the late light, when the day trips have gone.

You can manage a stone forest path, or are happy to skip that part and take it slower.

You want one number for the car, the guide, lunch and every ticket.

Look elsewhere if

You are one person on a tight budget. Small-group day tours cover much of this road for far less.

Heights are a real problem and the glass bridge is the reason you are coming.

A guaranteed sunset is the point of your trip. Cloud is common up here, and we do not refund for it.

You have a train or a bus that evening. You will not be back in Sapa much before 18:15.

If you only want the top of the pass, the half day covers Heaven Gate, the saddle and Silver Waterfall in a morning or an afternoon. See the Heaven Gate half day. Or tell us what you want to see, and we will plan a day around it.

Questions before you book

About the day

How long is the tour and when does it start?

It runs About 9 hours door to door, departing 09:00 from your hotel. In summer, when the sun sets around 19:00, we can start later if you would rather stay at the top for it. Tell us when you book.

Will we really see the sunset?

Sometimes. The tour is timed for the low sun, and from about late October to mid-January the last stop falls at sunset itself. Cloud can hide it on any day, and we do not refund for that.

Where do you pick us up?

At your own hotel, anywhere in Sapa, with no meeting point to reach on your own. Your guide waits in the lobby for 20 minutes.

How much walking is there?

The path to Love Waterfall is the only real walk: stone with steps, mostly gentle, steepest in the last 200 m, and it takes about an hour and three quarters there and back with time at the falls. It is easy to leave out. Everywhere else is short walks, stairs at your own speed and a lift at the glass bridge.

Can we change the route or the pace?

Yes. This is a sample day and every part of it can be adjusted: add a stop, skip one, or spend longer at the top. Tell us before you book and we confirm the plan and an all-inclusive price in writing.

Does the guide speak good English?

Yes. Your guide is a licensed local who speaks fluent English and explains the customs and the story behind each stop as you go.

Booking and practicalities

Is the price per person or for the whole group?

For the whole group, from one to four guests: four people pay less each than two, and the car is the same car. Children under 5 travel free and do not count towards the group size; from 5 a child counts as one guest; groups of five or more travel in a larger vehicle — message us for a quote. A child of 1 m or taller needs a bridge ticket at any age, and we pay for it, so tell us ages and heights when you book.

How do I pay, and when?

Two ways: pay the full price online by card, or pay a 30% deposit online and the rest in cash on the day of the tour, in US dollars or Vietnamese dong. We can also send a secure payment link on WhatsApp. The booking is confirmed once the online payment goes through, and your pickup time and guide’s name arrive in writing.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes — free cancellation up to 3 days before departure for a full refund, and free rescheduling subject to availability. Within 3 days of departure, 30% of the tour price is charged because the car and guide are already committed. Date changes are arranged over WhatsApp.

What if the glass bridge is closed that day?

As of November 2026: the Rong May glass bridge is privately run. A pause announced for 1 October 2026 was called off, and it is running until the authorities say otherwise. If it is closed on your day, your guide takes you somewhere else of similar interest, such as Ta Phin village, at the same price and with no partial refund.

What should I bring, and do I need cash?

A warm layer whatever the season, because the top is much colder than Sapa, shoes with some grip for the forest path, and a rain jacket from May to September. You do not need cash at any gate, since the tickets are bought for you; if you chose to pay the balance in cash, bring it for your guide.

What happens if it rains or the cloud comes in?

Light rain does not stop the day. If heavy rain makes a forest path or a stop unsafe, your guide swaps it for a viewpoint or the tea hills on the pass, at the same price. Cloud can hide the view on any day and is not refunded, but because the day is yours we can change the order or the hour to give you a better chance. If the authorities close the road over the pass, you choose a full refund or a free new date.

Book your day over the pass
